Watch: Cop rescues bride who is stranded on the roof of her flooding car

This was definitely not the wedding day that this bride had in mind…

A newlywed couple were travelling through Bogota, New Jersey this week when suddenly wave of flooding left them stuck in their car.

Luckily for them, the Bogota Police Department were on hand to help them out.

Their day was saved by Officer Michael Laferrera, who drove a police hummer up to the side of the couple’s car.

With the waters reaching the headlights, Michael got himself up on the top of their car and pulled the bride through the sunroof.

Still in er wedding dress, the bride handed over her shoes as she made her way out of the roof.

Bogota police Sgt. Geoffrey Cole told,“they’re in pretty decent spirits considering everything that happened,”

Michael said that it was definitely “a first” in his career.

The police department uploaded the video to Facebook, where it has garnered 1.7k likes, over 700 comments and 2.2k shares.

People were commenting, saying things like, ''wow. They will have a story to tell years from now about their wedding day! Congratulations. Glad you got to safer and drier ground.''

The police department explained, “if you are from the area, you know that it is flood-prone. Due to the quickly rising flood waters, this bride, her new husband and wedding party, got a rough start on things.''

“The fortunate thing, is we were able to help them through their first rough patch. Obviously their day has not gone as planned, so let’s congratulate them on their wedding and give them best wishes for a lifetime of love and adventure, starting now!!”

Congratulations to the happy couple – what a way to start married life!
