10 badass reasons breastfeeding mums should whip their boobs out in public

We know there are endless debates about breastfeeding versus formula feeding, and this isn’t one of those. We’ve always been vocal about our belief that mums know what’s right for them.

However, for mums that DO breastfeed, we felt compelled to compile a badass list of reasons why you should feel PROUD to whip your boobs out in public to feed your babba. NO ONE has ownership of your body except you. You’re all goddamn wonder women so don’t give anyone the power to sow feelings of negativity or self-doubt.

Here are our powerful reasons to whip ‘em out with pride:

1. They’re only boobs for the love and honour of God. A part of our anatomy. Probably made out of the same stuff as our arms or our thighs. Get. Over. Our. Breasts.

2. Breastfeeding is what boobs were intended for. We’re mammals, plain and simple. And besides, Mother Nature has a far bigger say in these things than society as far as we’re concerned.

3. We’re not trying to be sexy or titillating. We’re feeding our children, not trying to turn the head of every man in the parish. If a man is uncomfortable with a mum whipping down the maternity bra for a feed we’re going to have to say to them – in the kindest possible way mind you – get a GRIP!

4. Frankly, whipping out one of the twins is far better than having our little one roaring the place down because they’re starving. We’ll take nourishing our child over your small-mindedness thanks.

5. Judgemental people are the ones with the problem, not you. Although breastfeeding in public shouldn’t have to be a defiant act, it sometimes feels that way. We say hold your head high and ignore ‘em.  Either that or just take your bra off completely and whirl it around your head like a cowgirl. That’ll really give them something to talk about.

6. It’s empowering. Ever been on a foreign beach and said to hell with it and peeled off your bikini top? We have and it felt amazing. Now we know that a sandy beach in Fuerteventura isn’t the same as a plastic booth in the corner of your local McDonalds but the sentiment is the same.

7. The media, marketing and porn, yes porn, has over-sexualised breasts to the point that people are now more offended by a woman feeding her child than by images of topless models. Getting your boobs out to feed your child is a powerful way to reclaim what breasts were intended for by nature. So there!

8. It's not 'gross'. It's not 'icky'. It's not 'wrong'. It's beautiful, healthy and powerful. Anyone who has a problem with that needn't think we are going to waste a moment worrying about their delicate sensibilities.

9. Remember that breastfeeding in a public place is protected by law, so stuff the ill-informed and ignorant begrudgers.

10. You have so many supporters! Sometimes all it takes is one negative comment to make us feel awful, but remember, there are plenty of people out there who admire you and view breastfeeding as the wonderful thing it is.

Now, might we recommend you print this out a few times mums and take it with you if you plan to breastfeed in public? Just hand it to anyone you think needs to be schooled!

Keep doing what you’re doing mums – oh, and if you know a fellow momma who needs to hear these tips, why not link them?
