Why this video of a woman breastfeeding made our blood boil
A social experiment of the reactions of the people to a woman breastfeeding in public has gone viral – and honestly, we can’t say we’re surprised.
In the video posted by Joey Salads on his Facebook page, a woman pretends to breastfeed a fake baby in a number of public locations including a bench outside a shopping centre and a bus stop.
And although we know there’s a debate raging out there about breastfeeding in public, as far as we’re concerned it’s a no-brainer – and so we couldn’t help but feel a little shocked by the public’s reactions.
In many cases people showed actual disgust, with some so offended they even got up and walked away! And despite the ‘mum’ repeating time and time again “But he’s hungry” and “But it’s natural”, they were having none of it.
And what really struck us was that lots of the people who were offended were women. Go figure.

While we’re all about choice when it comes to feeding babies, we're firm on the stance that attacking a woman because she is breastfeeding in public is wrong. And more to the point, what does it say about our society that people are offended by a boob?
We think this stigmatisation goes back to the hyper-sexualisation of women’s breasts – lad’s mags, the media and porn, among other things, have managed to change the societal perception of women’s breasts from their natural purpose – producing milk and feeding babies – to playthings.
Well we say lead the charge and keep flashing those boobs!
