What on earth?! This photo of a baby in a tube has the Internet mystified
At first glance this photos of a baby inside a glass tube looks like something from a science fiction film. Scratch that, at second glance it looks like something from a science-fiction film!
The image was shared on imgur, with confused commenters wondering what the heck was happening to this poor child.
So what on earth IS going on?
Well the tube isn’t a prop for a low budget sci-fi, it’s actually a top-of-the-range piece of medical equipment called the Pigg-O-Stat which is an immobilisation device designed to position infants for an x-ray.
The idea is that as it holds kids in place for the x-ray, less attempts are needed and thus the child is exposed to less radiation.
Of course the image elicited some seriously funny comments for perplexed imgur uses, with one saying this was a great way to show kids where babies come from:
“I'm totally saving this picture for when my 8 year old asks me where babies come from and how they get in the mom's belly. ‘See, sweetie, the doctors load the baby into the hopper on top, and this machine compresses the baby, and using high pressure, inserts it into the belly of the mom-to-be’.”
While another had first-hand experience with the Pigg-O-Stat:
“My daughter was in one of those when she was just turning two. She's usually going to cry about anything out of the ordinary but not this, for some reason. However, while she was being stoic in the area above the table, her legs were cycling a hundred miles an hour the whole time, not unlike Scooby and Shaggy when they are scared and have begun to run but haven't yet moved.”
LOL!
What did you think it was when you first looked at it? Or did you know?
