Want to see what Medieval Dublin looked like? Check out these fun, free animated videos

Kids often think that history is a bit of a yawn-fest.

But that’s all set to change, thanks to Dublinia’s new online learning platform which promises to bring history and heritage to life in homes and schools nationwide.

A free online resource aimed at young and old alike, Viking and Medieval Dublin Online features nine animated videos recreating famous historical sites in Dublin, including St Patrick’s Cathedral, Christchurch and Dublin Castle.

Other top features include an interactive animated map showing the development of Dublin with narrated animated videos on themes relating to aspects of daily life in medieval times.

“The new platform shows "what's possible when rigorous historical research and new digital and animation technologies join forces to create a compelling way to learn about the history of the city,” says Charles Duggan, Heritage Officer at Dublin City Council who were involved in the project’s creation.
