Visit Waterford's seven one-day adventures to try before summer ends

The county has unveiled seven ready-made One Day Adventures — fully mapped-out itineraries designed to squeeze every last drop out of the remaining weeks before September arrives and reclaims everyone.

Seven adventures, zero planning headaches

Each itinerary is structured from morning to evening, pairing an activity with somewhere to eat and a suggestion for how to round off the day. Which, if you’ve ever spent 45 minutes in a car arguing about where to go and what to do before eventually giving up and going home, is genuinely useful.

The full list of One Day Adventures covers an impressive range of experiences across the county:

• Walls, Whiskey & Music — the Waterford Walls street art trail, a Waterford Treasures museum visit, and an evening of whiskey tasting and live music in the city

• Harbour Adventure — watersports at Dunmore East Adventure Centre, coastal walking and fresh seafood by the harbour

• The Family Seaside Adventure — the Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens, a family session at Splashworld, and a relaxed evening on the Tramore seafront

• Cliffs, Geology & Bunmahon — a scenic coastal journey along the Copper Coast taking in cliff walks, local art and the region’s mining heritage

• Mountains to Greenway — a mountain walk in the Comeraghs, cycling the Waterford Greenway, and dinner in Dungarvan’s Culinary Quarter

• Heritage & River Adventure — Lismore’s heritage sites followed by a cruise or self-drive boat trip on the River Blackwater

• Saints, Cliffs & Sea — Ardmore’s ancient monastic site, a signed cliff walk, and finishing with a seaweed bath or a trad music session

What’s smart about this initiative is the built-in flexibility. The itineraries aren’t rigid schedules — they’re designed to bend around your group, the weather and whatever age your kids happen to be. Make a day of it before the season slips away

Waterford is genuinely one of those counties that punches well above its weight for a day out. The Greenway alone is worth the drive, and pairing it with a mountain walk and dinner in Dungarvan — as the Mountains to Greenway itinerary suggests — would make for a seriously good late-summer day. The Family Seaside Adventure, meanwhile, has Splashworld in it, which alone is enough to make your kids forgive you for the screen-time limits you’ve been enforcing all summer.
