Supplements

It’s important that you take prenatal vitamins as soon as you find out you’re pregnant. Folic acid is probably one of the most important ones because it lessens your baby’s chances of having a birth defect such as spina bifida.

Healthcare insurance

Ring your health insurance provider to find out which costs are covered by your health insurance plan. Ask about prenatal care, delivery costs and the care of your newborn.

Caregiver

Ask your healthcare provider, speak to friends and family or do some research online to find a suitable caregiver to assist you throughout your pregnancy.

Prenatal visit

Even though you might not be seen until you are at least 8 weeks pregnant, make sure you book your appointment in advance.

Quit

If you’re a smoker or drinker, then it’s time you quit. Substance abuse can have irreversible effects to your growing baby.

Diet

Make sure you eat well during pregnancy so that your baby gets all the nutrients he or she needs to develop in a healthy way. Also be aware of hazardous foods like uncooked fish, raw eggs or unpasteurised milk. They contain bacteria, parasites, or toxins.

Learn

With all the pregnancy symptoms, it can be hard to know which ones are normal and which ones aren’t. Make sure you learn which symptoms you should be concerned about.

Clothes

Invest in new bras and underwear. Since your breasts are more sensitive now, you should consider maternity bras and clothes.

Budget

Be aware of your new baby expenses. Discuss them with your partner so you can start saving for your unborn child.
