The meaning behind these funny baby noises

baby noisesAs your baby grows, he or she will begin to make small sounds and noises. Although they might not mean anything to you, these sounds are your baby’s way of communicating. So the next time your little one grunts, take it as a sign of them trying to connect with you.

Grunting

People usually associate grunting with bowel movements. However, babies also grunt when they are frustrated or bored. For older babies, grunts are used to make a command. So if your baby grunts while pointing at something, it’s just their way of saying, ‘I want that, please give me that’.

Squealing

You will probably hear this high-pitched noise during a game of peek-a-boo. When a baby squeals, it usually means they are excited. To help your little one develop their language skills, respond to their excitement and say something like, ‘You’re really enjoying this game aren’t you?’ This will help your baby associate certain words with certain feelings.

Growling

If your 6 month old starts to make a growling noise, don’t be scared. In most cases, they like the feeling it makes in their throat so it’s all fun and games really. But as your baby grows, he or she may growl to show displeasure.

Babbling

Between four to six months, your little one will start to explore different sounds. Most babies start with the easiest sounds, such as ‘p’ and ‘m,’ so don’t be surprised if you hear a lot of ‘puh puh puh’ or ‘muh muh muh’ at the start.

After a while, you will start to hear more of a variety of sounds and sooner or later, these noises will start to resemble words.  Before you know it, ‘muh muh,’ will turn into ‘mama’.
