Teenagers answer all the burning questions older people are dying to know
The gap between generations can at times feel significant.
Reddit gave older people the opportunity to ask today's teenagers questions they've always wanted to ask the age group.
Needless to say things got very interesting.
The thread includes a whole host of questions and answers surrounding social media, global issues and relationships.
The first question was a hot topic when it comes to talking about teenagers.
"Somewhere in your 20s you’ll look at teens and say, “What the hell is up with teens these days? We were never that bad. The next generation is doomed,” said a user by the name of MoobyTheGoldenSock.
"But you were and it’s not. It’s just a phase in human development, and the vast majority of teens are just fine, and the 1% of extreme bad decisions stand out and get noticed," they added.
As for music, it seems for some it's less about the sound and more about the memory the song evokes when it's played.
"My parents listen to Banda, bachata, and cumbia from the 70/80s. I don’t like it solely because of the dread hearing one of those songs at 7am on a Saturday meant it was time to clean the whole house," said a user.
Another teen commented that she enjoys the same music as her mother.
"My mom and I have the same music tastes. I grew up with The Cranberries, U2, Pearl Jam etc. But I love LOVE old U2. She took me to their concert when I was 10 in my area and it just stuck. My father listens to a lot of rap. Which I just can't like for some reason."
"Social Media: Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat – not Facebook," responded a user, and another added "Discord for the gamers and anime kids."
Social media remained a hot topic of conversation, with one older person asking the youth of today if they thought it was simple to become famous from the platforms without any real talent. The answers were brilliant.
"It all depends on your marketing skills," said one.
"Ever heard of the Kardashians? Not a drop of talent between them, yet somehow they are famous. Ask any one why they are famous, there isn’t even a good reason…" said another.
"Encouragement" was the most liked answer, with a lot of similar replies saying that is what they require from their parents.
"Someone who I can trust and won’t tell all my secrets to the rest of the family, some support and encouragement would also be a nice thing to have also the motivation to do well in school or what ever you’re doing," wrote a user.
And finally, perhaps one of the most fascinating questions. Teens were asked about how they felt about the future and if they told any bad feelings towards the older generations for the problems they face.
The most popular answer was written by a user angelcake162 and it read:
"Seems like everything is heading towards a financial crash, and the biggest thing I have against older generations is that our path towards financial mobility (education) is getting blocked by greed."
Times have definitely changed over the last number of decades and we couldn't imagine growing up with so much social media, like teenagers do nowadays.
However, we do think Reddit is onto something with this thread and these conversations between generations should occur more often.
