Teacher battling cancer gets much more then he expected when he asks for more sick days

Robert Goodman was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in April and has been undergoing surgery and chemotherapy since then.

The 56-year-old, who is a teacher from Florida, has used up all 38 of his paid sick days that he has worked up at Palm Beach Gardens Community High School for the last 23 years.

He needed another 20 paid sick days to help him complete his treatment and not to be hurt financially.

So what did he do?

He posted to Facebook, asking for any help that anyone could give him.

His plea was answered – and he got a much greater response than he expected.

He was flooded with messages from his fellow teachers from all across the country within four days, saying that they wanted to donate their paid leave.

However, it was just educators who were offering their sick days to Robert, it was administrators, college professors, and cafeteria workers.

He told CNN, “I wasn't surprised that teachers were giving. Teachers are always giving all the time.''

“When one of their own needs help they’ll always step up.”

All in all, Robert racked up an amazing 75 sick days from teachers!

The plea on Facebook got 2.4k shares and hundreds of likes and comments.

People wrote, ''sharing, I wish there was more I could do hang in there something good will come'' and ''I just gave you two days. Stay strong.''

We're wishing Robert a speedy recovery and a huge well done to all of those generous people who donated their paid sick leave to help him.
