Policeman reunites with retired officer who delivered him, by pulling him over

When State Trooper Michael Patterson stopped Matthew Bailly for a minor traffic offense, he didn't realise that they had met before.

As they got chatting, Bailly told Patterson that he was a a retired Piscataway police officer. Patterson revealed that he was from the same town, and told Bailly where he used to live.

It turns out Bailly remembered that street. It was etched into his memory as the place where he helped deliver a baby 27 years ago.

He recalled the colour and style of the house, as well as the name of the baby he delivered- Michael. What happed next was shared on Facebook:

"Trooper Patterson extended his hand and replied, 'My name is Michael Patterson, sir. Thank you for delivering me'."

This amazing coincidence shocked both men, and smiling they took a picture together while Bailly shared the story of Patterson's delivery, 27 years ago.

"Mr. Bailly had four years on the job when he responded to a home on Poe Place in Piscataway. The date was October 5, 1991," shared the New Jersey State Police. "Trooper Patterson’s mother, Karen Patterson, was out shopping when she went into labour. She barely made it home.

"Bobby Patterson, Trooper Patterson’s father, rushed outside, picked up his wife, and carried her inside the house. He then called the doctor who talked Officer Bailly through the birth."

Both families were amazed at the chance encounter, even planning a reunion with Patterson's mother, Karen.

Feeling that the uplifting story should be heard by more people they shared it with the police department Facebook.

"After all, as a police officer, you don’t always get a chance to have a moment like this with people you once helped in your career!" they wrote, adding that the chance meeting of the two was an act of serendipity.

"We’re not sure what the odds are of this happening—maybe they’re close to the odds of a hole-in-one, winning the lottery, or being struck by lightning—but it happened."

Destiny indeed!
