Police officer makes a selfless sacrifice for an eight-year-old boy, because she’s a mum FIRST

Kristi Goll is mum to eight-year-old Jackson, who requires a kidney transplant.

Jackson needs a healthy O+ donor though, so mum Kristi took to Facebook asking people if they would consider donating.

But who would have thought that such a huge request would be picked up by a stranger?

Lindsey Bittorf and her husband Ryan are both police officers in Wisconsin, but they’re both parents too.

Needless to say the couple could fully comprehend the emotional battle Kristi was facing, while trying to help her son get better.

Lindsey, who was also O+, made a decision, a decision which would change both families’ lives forever.

The courageous police officer wanted to donate her kidney to little Jackson.

Lindsey exclaimed: “If this were my child, I would hope every other mother would step in and help.”

After affirming they were a perfect match, Lindsey, Ryan, their son, and her friend Jess Gutzman went to visit Jackson and his family.

Jess is a photographer at Gutzman Photography, who took beautiful snaps of the occasion, and the moment Jackson realised he was about to get a kidney!

The post which features on Love What Matters explains, Lindsey presented Jackson with a plaque featuring two hands holding a kidney that said:

"Jackson, I took an oath to serve and protect my community. My kidney will now be able to serve and protect you! I am your kidney donor."

Kristi is completely taken over by her emotions, ecstatic that her little boy will be getting the greatest gift: "I can't even put into words how amazing of a gift we are receiving from this amazing person."

"I know many think that my job as a police officer played a part in my decision, but it really was that I am a mom first," added the surprise donor Lindsey.

We can't believe how selfless Lindsey is, and we just hope people take some inspiration from her story. Have you an amazing story like this one to share?
