Family Life

One picture has left a woman feeling conflicted and tired about her role

When, Lacey Ralston, sat down for a moment she got a full on glimpse of her living room.

And it wasn't as pretty as she had hoped it would be.

It was in such a mess she didn't even know where to begin, but as she assessed the situation, she was quite conflicted on how to react to the situation.

Taking to Instagram, the mum states she's tired: "I'm tired of asking everyone to pick up, including myself. I'm tired of living in chaos. I'm a horrible housewife. I'm at a loss."

"I feel discouraged. I'm embarrassed. I want a nap. I'm f**king tired."

Every now and again things surpass us through the craziness of the day and we can never find the hours to tick every item off our list, cleaning being one.

We berate our children so they will pick up after themselves, leaving less for us to get through but it doesn't always go according to plan, does it?

However, while this mum may feel exhausted, there is something else that niggles at her – the bigger picture.

"As I type, my eldest is doing the dishes. My youngest is playing with cars quietly at my feet. They are happy. I'm taking a well deserved break and sitting on my ass. My kids are happy and very much loved."

Sitting here with 2 conflicting thoughts about this picture….  1. I'm fucking tired. I'm tired of asking everyone to pick up, including myself. I'm tired of living in chaos. I'm a horrible housewife. I'm at a loss. I feel discouraged. I'm embarrassed. I want a nap. I'm fucking tired.  2. As I type, my eldest is doing the dishes. My youngest is playing with cars quietly at my feet. They are happy. This pictures shows that we have fun in this house, that we have jobs and that we are busy ensuring ourselves and our children experience life.  Why do we put so much pressure on ourselves? I think we do it more than society does: In our heads trying to be the perfect wife, mother, daughter, friend or employee. Today I take a break. Tonight I take a bath.  #momrant #boymom #imtired #nofilter #lifteachotherup #momlife #bestlife #motivation #selfcare #suburbia #suburbanmom

It doesn't take Lacey long to realise that we as mothers put a lot of unnecessary pressure on ourselves to be perfect, in fact we probably have more expectations for ourselves than society does.

And the mess? Well it will still be there tomorrow, and tomorrow is a new day.
