Mum's doctors visit takes a turn, leaving her family shocked

When Robyn Bailey attended the doctor's office with suspected appendicitis, she never believed she would be immediately rushed to a hospital ward.

The young woman received the shock of her life when medical staff informed her she was actually in labour.

Robyn and her partner Luke, had no idea she was expecting, let alone about to deliver a baby into this world.

Heading straight for the hospital, Robyn delivered a newborn baby girl, who they named, Daisy Pearl.

Nonetheless, after a mere two weeks of adjusting to their new parenting roles, the couple were dealt a blow when Daisy was rushed to hospital.

According to her dad, Luke, Daisy was diagnosed with three holes in her heart when they found the tot was struggling to breathe.

"The holes in her heart were causing too much blood to flow into her lungs meaning Daisy was unable to use her lungs to their full capacity," needing life-saving open heart surgery.

Luke revealed to Cambridge News: "In a matter of weeks our lives had changed. We had no idea that Daisy was on the horizon and all of a sudden Robyn was not only pregnant, but also in labour and giving birth to our baby."

"We weren’t prepared at all, but as soon as we set our eyes on our baby daughter, we were love struck and couldn’t wait to get the next chapter of our lives started. She completed our little family."

"We had been at home for two weeks before Daisy became seriously unwell. We were told her heart wasn’t working properly – it was terrifying to think that something we loved so much could be taken away from us."

"Daisy was in and out of hospital for about two months until she took a turn for the worse again needing an emergency transfer to Great Ormond Street, where she had the first of two open heart surgeries."

Not wanting to leave their two-week-old daughter in hospital unless they were close-by, the pair were fortunate enough to avail of Acorn house and Guilford Street House; housing accommodations run by the Sick Children's Trust, which meant they were never far from Daisy's side.

Now that Daisy is recovering well, and her hospital visits are less frequent – in an ode to the charity for coming to the young couple's aid when they needed it most, Luke is running a half-marathon in a bid to raise much needed funds for the trust.

"To know we had somewhere to stay, completely free of charge, right next to our baby was such a comfort when it felt like our whole world was falling apart. Daisy never had to be without one of us by her side and we didn’t have to worry about how we were going to be able to afford to stay with her."

"There are so many charities I could run for that has helped the three of us along the way, but the Sick Children's Trust were able to keep me and Robyn so close to Daisy's bed side."

What an amazing and strong family, we're delighted to hear that little Daisy has recovered well from her surgeries.
