Pregnancy

Mum will NOT celebrate that her baby is viable, and for a very good reason too

When pregnant, a 24-week check-up isn't just another routine, it is the all important week the doctor informs parents-to-be that their baby is viable.

However sometimes you need to remember that:

“It doesn't promise you a future. It doesn't promise no pain. It isn't a line in the sand for survival. It's not always what it seems.”

Shayna Neighbors knows all too well the celebration which beholds a 24-week scan.

But for Shayna, who is pregnant with her fifth child, it is not  a time for celebration, and for a very understandable reason.

Because in the mum-of-four’s words: “It's not always what it seems.”

Shayna is a mum-of-four, who is 24-weeks pregnant with her fifth baby, but unfortunately only two of her four are still with her today.

Her twin boys, Anderson and Grayson, sadly left this world as preemies in the NICU.

Time hop breaks and heals hearts….. I love remembering the joy before the pain…. and I love those boys.  #twinmom #mysweetboys

“I've heard all the statistics. I’ve met mothers of 22-week-old survivors. I've met mums of full term losses.”

Shayna has celebrated every single day she has been blessed with her fifth child but she also understands the challenges presented before and after 24-weeks.

“I don't like the term, viable. It doesn't speak to the purpose my sons carried. It doesn't speak to the fight they had in them.

"It doesn't describe the massive amount of love despite their ability to survive."

"So in this house and in my heart, we celebrate each kick. We celebrate the hope of bringing this baby home.”

They don’t celebrate that this baby is now viable, they celebrate every single day, and will continue to celebrate with each day that passes.
