Mum gives birth to 'en caul' baby while dashing to the hospital

Having a baby born en caul is incredibly rare, 1 in every 80K births rare, due to the sensitivity of the amniotic sac.

And delivering a baby in a car? It's just as rare.

So when little EJ decided to join the world, little did he know his birth was going to be one of the most amazing stories we have ever heard.

Mum-of-two, Raelin Scurry, was just 29-weeks pregnant and had thought she was suffering from Braxton Hicks when in fact she was having contractions.

Nonetheless, after 45-minutes of endurance, Mum didn't want to wait it out any longer, deciding it was time to go to the hospital, just in case.

Grabbing her things and sending her daughter to her godmother's house, Raelin revealed the human body is an 'incredible' thing as she shared her birth story with us.

"The contractions continued to get closer together and more intense and before I knew it, I knew it was time to push. I called 911 because I was so scared."

Through her screams, emergency services couldn't understand the mum, instead handing the phone to her fiance, but Raelin knew it was time to push, she could feel it.

"I pulled my pants off and reached down, sure enough his head was right there. I pushed one time and my miracle baby was here."

But that wasn't to be the only miracle to occur as Raelin looked down to see her son: "I realised he was still completely wrapped in the amniotic sac."

The astonishing picture captures her newborn son, completely covered by his delicate amniotic sac as Mum held onto him, desperately trying to get to the hospital.

Emergency services had asked the couple to pull over, but Raelin denied their request, knowing it would take them longer to get to her, waiting an agonising seven-minutes to reach the hospital grounds.

Re-calling the moments before reaching the emergency room, the mum-of-two remembers: "At first the baby was still and all I could do was pray he would be okay."

"And then I rubbed his face with my thumb and he pulled his little hands and feet up to his face as if he understood my prayers and wanted to reassure us he was okay."

EJ was a tiny three pounds and one ounce when he joined his family, however, a fortnight after his arrival his parents have revealed he is doing just fine: "He's going to be an awesome little man."

"We are so blessed to be his parents," concluded Raelin.

The human body really is an amazing thing – this is one incredible birth story with an astonishing snap of what can happen during birth.
