Life-long couple were married 78 years before their deaths two days apart

These New Yorkers have one of the most heartwarming love stories we have ever heard.

Gilbert and Evelyn Drake were married for 78 years before their recent passing. Evelyn passed away on July 20th and, just two days later, Gilbert also died.

The life-long couple was surrounded by loved ones and passed peacefully in their home. The lovebirds had three children together, all of which remember their parents fondly.

Their obituary said, “Gilbert always said ladies before gentleman, and it was that way right to the end.”

The couple passed just before their birthdays, which are also two days apart. Evelyn would have turned 99-years-old on August 8th, and her husband would have been 101-years-old on August 10th.

The two were described as amazing parents, grandparents, and great grandparents.

Evelyn was an avid church goer and had a passion for children, running a nursery school from their home in Delmar called Playtime.

Gilbert fought in World War II and later became the owner and operator of DA Bennett, a heating and air conditioning service, in their hometown.

The adorable couple “cherished their times with family in their backyard pool, attending their grandchildren's school events and going on family trips.”

They also loved to travel and play bridge. Evelyn enjoyed doing crafts with the children attending her nursery school, and Gilbert was always playing his viola.

“There is no question, they were the most devoted couple and set a wonderful example of life and love,” said the loving couple’s obituary.

It seems Evelyn and Gilbert were made for each other from the start and were genuinely happy together.

A private funeral service will be held for loved ones at their graveside to reflect on all the wonderful times the family shared together.
