'Is that a joke?': Mum is bewildered by friend's choice of 'cruel' baby name

We can all agree, there are some truly bizarre baby names out there.

Forget your Apple, Audio and Cricket (yes, we're looking at you, Busy Philipps) because this name is completely bonkers. 

A Netmums user, Annalise D, took to the forum to share her puzzlement at the name her friend had chosen for her child.

It was…wait for it…Abcd.

"The baby's name is spelt: Abcde. And pronounced: Ab-si-dee. I've never heard of this name before – has anyone else? Or any other crazy names you've heard of?" she asked the other users.

Replies arrived thick and fast, with many others sharing her shock at the strange moniker. 

Replies varied from, ''that is the silliest name I've ever heard – but kudos for the imaginative pronunciation. Some parents are too cruel'' to ''no way. I can just imagine the teacher calling out the name and not knowing what to say!'' and ''if this isn't a joke…then that's truly awful. Fancy saddling a child with that kind of ridiculous name.''

Others saw a funnier side to it though, with one joking  that, ''it's great because if they have another they can call it fghij then the next klmno and so forth.''

Another user had actually done some research on the name and found out that ''it's been described as 'rare' but it's out there! 328 girls were named Abcde in the United States between 1990 and 2014.''

How insane is that?!

Inevitably, stories began to emerge of other odd names that parents had given their offspring.

“I’ve heard of an A-A…..pronounced aDASHa,” was among the names mentioned.

Other unusual names included ''essence-star and  maikayda-bliss.''

It seems like the days of Jane and John are over, right?
