'I can’t believe it': Tourist pays one hundred times their taxi fare by accident, so driver does this amazing thing

So there are honest people in the world!

A Chinese-American tourist was getting a taxi in the capital city of Xian in the Shaanxi province when they accidently overpaid their fare.

And it wasn't just by a little bit – they gave $950 instead of $9.50!

That's the equivalent for the taxi driver of  6,500 yuan for a 65 yuan.

The Chinese driver, Zhang Peng, only realised this when he checked the online wallet of his WeChat app.

Immediately, he knew something was wrong.

Zhang knew that judging by the time of the payment, that it had been made by four tourists he had picked up from the train station and dropped to a hotel nearby.

He tried first to get in touch with them through his dispatchers but when that didn't work he decided to just go to the hotel where he had dropped them off and explained the situation to the front desk.

It worked, because the man came down and was stunned to find out how much money he had given the cab driver.

He told South China Morning Post“these systems like WeChat Pay and Alipay are all new to me.''

“I don’t really know how to use them. In the US when I pay, there’s usually a space for decimal points, so I thought I had to do the same here and ended up accidentally paying so much more.”

According to the Good News Network, the man was even more surprised when Zhang refused a reward and insisted on giving him back every bit of teh excess fare.

The tourist left him a glowing review on WeChat, as reported by the Malaysian Digest.

“I can’t believe it,” he wrote in Chinese. “For some people, money is their only goal, and 6,500 yuan is a lot of money. I felt so excited yesterday because you returned it. I really appreciate it.”

Well done to Zhang – it's not every day you return hundreds of dollars worth of taxi fare!
