How long should you wait to get pregnant after a miscarriage?
Conventional wisdom tells us that you shouldn't start trying for a baby too soon after having a miscarriage.
But according to the latest research, women who try to become pregnant within three months of a miscarriage have better chances of a successful pregnancy than those who wait longer than that.
Researchers from The American College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology looked at data from 998 women who had suffered a miscarriage under 20 weeks.
“Our findings suggest that conventional recommendations to wait may be unwarranted,” said study author, Dr Karen Schliep.
However, it's important not to rush things if you're not ready emotionally.
“Feelings of guilt and depression are not uncommon and need to be addressed early rather than late since they can be quite persistent,” said Dr Cindy Pan.
“If you are feeling emotionally fragile or depressed, it may be a good idea to address these issues before falling pregnant again. Talk to your GP about how you are feeling. Letting it out helps.”
