Here’s why you should ask where the food in a restaurant comes from

The joy and pleasure of eating out is insurmountable.

The happiness you feel when someone hands you a plate of hot, tasty food is not something to be taken for granted – and should be embraced in all its wonderful glory.

But the one thing you get at home that you don’t really get in a restaurant, is the complete knowledge of where your food actually comes from.

Could it be from the local farm down the road or some far flung country that has taken longer than you care to think to get to your plate?

You’ll never know –  unless you 'Just Ask', that is…

Bord Bia's Just Ask campaign encourages diners to look for information on where the food on their plate comes from when dining out.

It also champions restaurants across Ireland that demonstrate best practice in supporting local suppliers on their menus.

“It’s wonderful to see how the Just Ask campaign has developed over the last eight years and we are delighted to work with Georgina on it," Maureen Gahan from Bord Bia said.

"With over 80 award-winning restaurants selected to date, we are proud to share this video with consumers, in the hope of showcasing how they too can get involved and actively support local food producers.”

Bord Bia only rewards Irish restaurants that source local produce and profile suppliers on their menus – and that's why you should always ask where your food comes from.

Just under 100 award-winning restaurants across Ireland having been selected by Georgina Campbell and Bord Bia since the campaign began in 2009, so be sure to Just Ask the next time you’re dining out!
