Gousto cuts Irish prices by 20% and the timing couldn't be better

If you’ve ever stood in a supermarket trying to work out how to feed the family something decent, nutritious and not eye-wateringly expensive, you’ll know that “just eat better” is not particularly helpful advice. Gousto, the recipe box brand, has decided to actually do something about that rather than just nod along to the conversation.

This month, Gousto has cut the price of its Irish meal kits by around 20% and has committed to holding those lower prices until the end of 2026. It’s a meaningful reduction and, honestly, a fairly welcome one at a time when the weekly shop still feels like it’s fighting back.

It’s not just cheaper — it’s staying cheaper

The price cut isn’t a flash sale or a short-term new-customer gimmick. Gousto says it has been able to reduce costs through efficiencies gained as the business has grown, which means the savings are being passed directly to customers rather than squeezed out of Irish suppliers. That distinction matters. It’s not always the case that lower prices come without a cost to someone further down the chain, so it’s worth noting when a brand is clear about where the savings are actually coming from.

Independent analysis also puts Gousto as Ireland’s best-value recipe box, coming in around 24% cheaper than HelloFresh. For a household going through several boxes a month, that adds up.

Timo Boldt, Gousto’s Founder and CEO, put it plainly: “I built Gousto on the principle that healthy eating should be accessible and joyful. I know the dangers of ultra-processed food. I am actively working to reduce the amount consumed. You can’t out-discipline a system that has been optimised against you.”

It’s a line that will resonate with anyone who has tried to feed a family on a budget while also caring about what actually goes into the food. The problem was never a lack of willpower. It was a lack of affordable options that didn’t involve reading a list of ingredients that sounds like a chemistry exam.

More than 160 recipes a month — and many done in under 20 minutes

The variety on offer is one of Gousto’s stronger selling points for families. With more than 160 recipes available each month, there’s enough rotation to stop the whole thing feeling repetitive by week three. Many of the meals are ready in as little as 10 to 20 minutes, which, if you’ve ever tried to cook from scratch at 6pm with a tired child hanging off your leg, is not a small thing.

The ingredients arrive pre-measured, which means far less food waste than a typical supermarket shop. Gousto cites its own figures showing that, compared to an equivalent supermarket shop, their boxes produce 23% fewer carbon emissions. That’s the kind of stat that’s easy to file away and forget about, but it’s a genuinely decent environmental argument for the model.

Irish suppliers at the heart of it

One thing that stands out in Gousto’s Irish offering is the supplier list. Over a third of ingredients are sourced from Irish producers, including names like Glenilen Farm in Cork, O’Hanlon Herbs in Wicklow, Liffey Meats in Cavan and Andarl Farm in Mayo. Clonakilty is in there too, which, for anyone with strong opinions about black pudding, is worth knowing.

Gousto is a certified BCorp, and the Irish supplier relationships are something the brand says it intends to grow over time. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s a stated direction, and that’s at least worth something.

Introductory pricing starts at €2.00 per portion for new customers on a 5-recipe, 4-person box. You can have a look at what’s on offer and place an order at gousto.ie.
