Giovanna Fletcher Is Coming to Dublin in a Thriller You Won't Forget

If you’re the kind of person who read Before I Go To Sleep in approximately one sitting and then made everyone in your house talk about it for a week, we have very good news for you. The gripping psychological thriller — S J Watson’s debut novel that sold over six million copies worldwide and was later turned into a film starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth — is coming to the stage for the first time ever, and it’s heading to Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre in spring 2027.

Giovanna Fletcher, beloved author, podcaster and proud winner of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2020, will take on the lead role of Christine. Tickets are already on sale via Ticketmaster, so if you’re thinking about a night out that isn’t a school fundraiser or a birthday party at a soft play, this might be your moment.

A story that gets under your skin

For anyone who hasn’t read the book (no judgement — the to-read pile is a real and ever-growing problem), the premise is genuinely unsettling in the best possible way. Christine appears to have a perfectly normal life. Loving husband. Nice home. The works. But every morning she wakes up with no memory of the past 20 years. Every single night, it all disappears. As she tries to piece together who she is and who she can trust, the truths that begin to surface are far darker than she could have imagined.

It’s the kind of story that makes you simultaneously grateful for your own chaotic, noisy, school-bag-tripping-over existence and absolutely certain you won’t be sleeping well for a few nights after. Which, given most of us are already running on about four hours, feels almost poetic.

A dream creative team behind the production

The stage adaptation has been written by Rachel Wagstaff and will be directed by Loveday Ingram — the same creative team behind the hugely successful 2025 stage production of The Girl on the Train, in which Giovanna also starred. So this is very much a reunion of people who already know they work brilliantly together, and that’s always a good sign.

Giovanna added: “I’m also chuffed to be working with Rachel Wagstaff and Loveday Ingram again — the three of us loved working on The Girl on the Train together last year and are very happy to be reunited.”

S J Watson himself is equally enthusiastic. “Before I Go To Sleep has lived many lives I never expected,” he said, “and this feels like one of the most exciting yet. I can’t think of a better team to bring Christine’s story to the stage.”

The production will open at Richmond Theatre in January 2027 before touring major UK and Ireland theatres through to the end of June. Lighting design is by Tony nominee Jason Taylor, and further casting is still to be announced.
