Fundraising page set up for father who only fosters terminally ill children

Mohamed Bzeek has been a foster father in Los Angeles for more than 20 years.

But he doesn't just take in any children.

Mohamed, who was born in Libya but moved to LA in 1978, cares for terminally ill children.

Children who are on the 'do not resuscitate' list. Children no one else will take in.

Mohamed's late wife Dawn was fostering children before they met, and, in the mid-90s they decided to care solely for terminally ill children.

The couple welcomed a son – Adam – in 1997.

Adam, who was born with brittle bone disease and dwarfism, has gone on to study computer science at Citrus College.

Dawn sadly passed away in 2015, and Mohamed has been caring for Adam and his foster kids on his own since.

Last year, an article about him caring for a six-year-old girl with a rare brain defect was printed in the Los Angeles Times.

Margaret Cotts read the article and was so moved by Mohamed's love for the children he cares for that she set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money.

"I was feeling overwhelmed and disturbed by the hate speech I was seeing on the internet," she wrote on the fundraising page.

"Then I happened across the article about Mohamed in the LA Times. I read it and burst into tears.

"It was healing to read about someone who is so genuinely good. I was touched by his faith, his gentleness, and his dedication and love for his children.

"Mohamed has been of service, not only to his children, but to everyone who has read the article. In these times when there is so much hate, it is inspiring and reassuring to read about someone who is so good and full of love."

Funds raised will go towards getting central heating and air conditioning in his home, hiring a nurse, buying a new wheelchair accessible van and roof repairs.
