'Full of spirit': Oldest person in Britain says her long life is all down to this one thing

Want to know how to live until 112-years-old?

Then look no further than Grace Jones, the oldest person in Britain.

Grace has revealed the secret to her long life and it is definitely not something you would expect.

Every day for the last 60 years, she has knocked back a glass of whiskey and she credits this nightly tipple of Famous Grouse for keeping her in such good health for so long.

Born in 1906 in Liverpool, Grace was born not long after the death of Queen Victoria and has lived through two world wars and a staggering 26 prime ministers.

Grace, a former millinery factory owner, and mother of one says, ''I never miss my nightcap. All I have is the whiskey at night.''

With no intention of stopping now, she explains that even her doctor supports her nightly routine.

''My doctor said, “keep up with the whiskey Grace, it’s good for your heart”. I still feel the same as I did when I was 60.''

Grace married engineer Leonard Roderick Jones in 1933 in Liverpool and they were married for 53 years until he died in 1986, aged 79.

At 112 years old, how's her health?

''I feel fine. I feel full of spirit. I have received lots of nice cards and presents this year and they are still coming in. We will be here next year as well.''

Her daughter Deidre McCarthy is in awe of her mother's long life.

The 80-year-old said, ''my mother is extraordinary. She still reads a little and watches television. She loves her tot of whiskey every evening before she goes to bed and why not? Whiskey is her thing and she’s been having it for the last 60 year.s''

She continued, ''I must say I certainly take after her in that regard, it’s the perfect way to unwind at the end of the day and it’s certainly done my mother no end of good.''

Happy birthday, Grace – we've no doubt that she will be enjoying the celebrations with a glass of whiskey.
