Mum goes from single mum at 17 to self-made millionaire businesswoman
In an amazing story of tenacity and determination, a mum-of-three went from being a single mum at 17 to the multi-millionaire businesswoman she is today.
Kate Stewart, 33, from Liverpool, started building the groundwork for her now fabulously wealthy lifestyle when she balanced a low-paid job with studying for a degree.
She is opening up about her journey on the Channel 5 show How The Other Half Lives, hosted by husband and wife duo Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.
“I got pregnant at 17 and the destiny written for me was ‘you are going to claim benefits and have more kids’. Everyone wrote me off and I thought ‘no’ and came back fighting. That gave me the drive to achieve,” she told Eamonn and Ruth on the show.
Building her fortune by investing her money wisely, Kate’s empire, which includes tanning shops and beauty salons, went from strength to strength. She made her first million 10 years ago.
Now Kate wear designer clothes, hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and doesn’t think twice about spending £1000 a night on a hotel room.
However, despite her wealth, Kate, who is now married, says she would give it all up for her kids if she had to. After previously suffering a miscarriage, she hired her own midwife and paid for regular private check-ups when pregnant with her now one-year-old twin boys
“I didn't care about the cost, I'd have gone without food or without anything in my life, I'd have sold everything just to ensure that my children were well and born safely,” she told the Liverpool Echo.
While some might find Kate’s lifestyle a tad excessive, we have to admire her drive and ambition in realising her dreams. This story serves to prove that teen mums should never, ever be ‘written off’. With the right help and determination, there is absolutely no reason why young mums can’t go on to achieve great things.
