Flahavan's Porridge Recipes That Will Actually Change Your Mornings
There’s something quietly heroic about getting a warm, decent breakfast on the table in the morning. Between the lost school shoes, the half-eaten lunches being shoved back into bags and someone definitely crying about something, porridge is often the one thing that actually happens without drama. And this week, it’s getting its moment in the spotlight.
It’s National Porridge Week (5–12 October 2026) and Flahavan’s is marking the occasion by reminding us that the humble bowl of oats is capable of so much more than we’ve been giving it credit for. To prove the point, they’ve teamed up with chef Eunice Power to create a collection of porridge recipes that are genuinely worth getting out of bed for. The recipes were styled by Orla Nelligan and photographed by Joleen Cronin, and honestly, they look like something you’d order in a brunch spot, not scrape together before the 8:40 bell.
Flahavan’s uses uniquely double-baked oats, which give their porridge that particularly creamy, satisfying consistency. It’s the kind of breakfast that actually keeps you going, which, when you’re on your third school run of the week and haven’t sat down since Monday, matters more than you’d think.
The recipes worth trying this week

The line-up covers every kind of morning. If you’re a coffee person (and at this stage of October, who isn’t), the Bulletproof Porridge is for you. A shot of espresso is stirred into creamy Flahavan’s oats with honey, cinnamon and vanilla. It tastes like someone finally merged your two most important morning rituals into one bowl. We’ve added the recipe for this one as it’s definitely one we will be trying this week!
Serves 1
Ingredients
50 g Flahavan’s Rolled Oats
150 ml Flahavan’s Barista Oat Drink
100 ml Water
*1 shot Espresso (30ml)
1 – 2 tsp Honey, to taste
1 tsp (5g) Butter
Pinch of Salt
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Vanilla extract
1. Put the rolled oats, oat drink, water and salt into a small saucepan.
2. Cook gently for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until thick and creamy.
3. Add the espresso and turn heat to low and cook for another 30-60 seconds.
4. Remove from the heat and stir through the butter until melted and emulsified into the porridge.
Stir in honey, cinnamon and vanilla. Enjoy.
*Espresso can be made using 2 tsp instant coffee & 30ml hot water

Some more yummy ideas which we will be trying are as follows (recipes can be found on Flahavan’s website).
The Sticky Toffee Porridge with Dates is exactly what it sounds like. Soft dates melt into the oats, a warm date sauce goes over the top and toasted nuts finish it off. It’s essentially sticky toffee pudding for breakfast, and we’re absolutely not complaining about that.

If you’ve got kids who are suspicious of anything that looks unfamiliar, the Hot Porridge with Cranberry, Apple and Orange Compote is a gentle crowd-pleaser. The compote is sweet and gently tart with a citrusy edge, and it brings a little colour to the table without requiring much effort on your part. It also happens to have a slightly festive look to it, which at this point in the year feels entirely appropriate.

For mornings when you want something that feels like a treat but takes barely any thought, the Lemon Curd Porridge is a winner. Swirl in some lemon curd, and suddenly your bowl of oats has a bright, tangy lift that makes the whole thing feel far more considered than it actually was.
The ones you can prep the night before
Now this is where things get genuinely useful. The Bircher Muesli and the Big Nutty Overnight Oats are both prepped the evening before, which means your morning self has nothing to do except assemble and eat. That is an act of self-care that actually fits into real life.

The Bircher brings together Flahavan’s oats, grated apple, yogurt and a hint of cinnamon, finished with crunchy nuts and honey. The overnight oats go a step further with almonds, flaxseed and apricots soaking overnight, then topped with thick Greek yogurt in the morning. Both are cool, creamy and ready when you are, which is more than can be said for most things at 7am.

A small shift that makes mornings feel better
None of these recipes require much time or anything unusual from the shops. That’s largely the point. Eunice Power has worked with what most of us already have to hand and found ways to make breakfast feel a bit more considered without adding stress to the routine. And if the result is that you actually sit down for five minutes in the morning with something warm and decent in front of you, that’s not nothing.
