Fire brigade respond to little girl who wishes she was a boy so she could become a firefighter

Dublin Fire Brigade have proved that they really are true heroes after showing one young girl that she can achieve anything she puts her mind to.

Mum Hannah Summers took to Twitter to share that her four-year-old daughter said she wishes she was a boy so she could be a firefighter.

“My 4yr old came home yesterday saying she wished she was a boy so she could be a fireman. When I said girls can be firefighters too she said ‘but I’ve seen in books they are all boys and I don’t want to be the only girl.’ Any good vids/books I can show her? #FirefightingSexism,” the mum asked.

The Dublin Fire Brigade replied to the tweet in the most touching way and showed young Esme that girls can be firefighters too.

They shared a video of all of their female team members and wrote: “Hi Esme! Girls make great Firefighters and Paramedics, we have lots in Dublin Fire Brigade and we want more. If you are ever in Dublin make sure you drop in and see us.”

They also shared a photo of one firefighter holding Sarah Webb’s empowering book Blazing A Trail.

Blazing A Trail shares true stories for everyone who dreams of changing the world.

The book is full of famous women’s mammoth achievements and the ways in which they made a difference. Blazing A Trail is bound to encourage the young women of today, including Esme, to follow in the footsteps of Dr Kathleen Lynn, Maud Gonne and Anne O’Brien.

We hope Esme realises that you can chase your dreams no matter what. Fair play to the Dublin Fire Brigade for being so encouraging.
