Mums Who Inspire

Extraordinary mum graduates from college on the SAME day as her daughter

If you know someone who has done something inspirational or you have your own story that you would like to see featured in our Mums Who Inspire series, email mary.byrne@sheologydigital.com and we'll be in touch.

As part of our series this week, we have Tasha Oliver who graduated from college after battling cancer twice.

After serving as a military cook most of her life, Tasha Oliver went back to college to study health care management.

Tasha took the step to leave her job and enter college a couple of years after she battled breast cancer in 2005.

But her studies were extended as the mum-of-three was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time in 2010.

Battling the disease was her first priority, and after successfully doing so, the mum went back to her studies.

However, Tasha’s eldest daughter Cierra Patterson had entered college in the meantime, also studying health care management.

And with the prolonging of Tasha’s course due to her ill health, both girls ended up walking across the stage together as they graduated on the SAME day!

And better again; according to Inside Edition, the mum is not finished just yet.

Tasha is planning on going back to school once again to complete a Masters degree, proving to everyone that you’re never too old to go back to school.

Such a wonderful story, well done to both ladies on their achievements.

IOur Mums Who Inspire series celebrates all mamas who are doing/ have done something truly remarkable; whether it’s caring for a sick child, showing resilience during tough times, helping people in their community or simply making a difference in the life of someone else, we want to give them the recognition they deserve.
