Expectant mum goes into hospital thinking she is having contractions... but it's something else entirely

Pregnancy is one of the most overwhelming and emotional times of your life.

From dealing with fatigue to nausea and body changes, it can often feel like your body is not your own anymore – and you don't really know what is going on with it.

However, if you are on your second or third baby, you can kind of judge for yourself when you think things are moving, especially in the contractions department.

So when this expectant mum, who is 37 weeks pregnant on her second baby, felt her tummy tighten every five minutes she knew what it meant: baby was on their way – or so she thought.

Taking to Reddit, user mj00614 wrote:

"Yesterday morning around 11 am, I was getting really uncomfortable and then noticed contractions coming and going. This is my second baby so I know what one feels like!

"My whole mid-section tightening in a wave every five minutes or so… I could still talk through them and wasn't terribly painful.

Well now I feel like an idiot… from BabyBumps

"So I took a shower and laid around hoping they would go away.

"Four hours later, I was still having them consistently every four minutes, so I told my husband I think we should go to the hospital (which is an hour away).

"I knew if I was admitted I'd be there for a while so I decided we should go eat a nice meal and enjoy our last little 'date'.

"Then we get to the hospital and they hook me up to the monitor… literally everything stopped. "

And here's the best bit… the mum was NOT having contractions – but rather tummy rumblings not related to Baby!

"Doctor asked, what did you eat/drink today?" she continued.

"I had to think about it, um nothing actually?

"Duh WTF who goes all day without eating or drinking…? So that's what the contractions were from.

"I felt so dumb… and for making my whole family go into baby mode."
