Did you know there are safety regulations for bunk beds?
Thinking of a bunk bed for a child’s room? Harvey Norman is proud to announce that all their bunk beds meet EU regulation EN747 to ensure the safety of children and giving parents peace of mind when purchasing a bunk bed.
EN747 is an EU regulation that sets the highest safety standards for bunk beds. It makes a number of recommendations that suppliers must follow in order to be compliant. All Harvey Norman bunks undergo a wide range of testing to ensure they comply with EN747 and must adhere to a number of recommendations including:
- Slats should be no less than 7.5cm apart, and threads should be 3cm wide and 20cm apart.
- Rails that come 16cm above the height of the mattress are essential to maintain safety.
- The ladder should be fixed to the bed frame.

- The mattress should fit the bed perfectly.
- Mattresses should not come above the line marked on the bunk bed.
