Dad pulls his shoelaces out of his runners after daughter goes into labour

When Megan Cooper found out she was pregnant, we're pretty sure she wasn't expecting to give birth at home.

The 16-year-old went into labour a week early on Thursday, and went to the hospital straightaway.

However, as she was only 2cm dilated, the teenager was sent home to wait.

But not long after arriving at the house, Megan suddenly felt the urge to push.

Panicking, her sister Laura phoned 999.

Wanting to help, dad John Cooper took out his shoelaces to tie around the cord, although paramedics arrived before he needed to use them.

According to the report in the Liverpool Echo, paramedics arrived 10 minutes after the call was made, just as the baby's head was crowning.

And at 1:45am on Friday morning, Megan gave birth to Deacon Declan Cooper, a healthy 7lbs 12oz boy surrounded by ten family members and her boyfriend Declan.

Mum and son were taken to taken to hospital for a check-up but are due home today.
