Currys is offering students up to €150 off laptops before college term starts

If you’ve got a student heading to college this September, you’ll know that the laptop conversation has either already happened — loudly — or it’s coming. Either way, it’s one of the bigger spends of the back-to-college season, and finding something decent without completely draining the account takes a bit of planning.

Currys is currently running student savings of up to €150 on selected Windows laptops and desktop PCs, and it could be worth a look before the new term kicks off. Verified students can save €100 on selected Windows laptops and desktops priced €899 and above, with that rising to €150 off selected models priced €1,499 and above. For students leaning towards a Chromebook, there’s also 10% off selected models priced €249 and above.

Free standard delivery on eligible Windows laptops and Apple MacBooks is available within the Republic of Ireland until 27th October 2026, subject to terms and conditions — so there’s time to shop around rather than panic-buying the first thing on the shelf.

It depends on the course

One thing Currys is keen to point out — and it’s genuinely useful advice — is that there’s no single right laptop for every student. The needs of someone studying English literature are very different from those of someone doing engineering, graphic design or coding. A lightweight machine with solid battery life might be everything a humanities student needs, while a course involving demanding software could call for something with considerably more processing power.

Worth thinking about before committing to whatever’s on sale: how will your student actually use it day to day? Lugging a heavy laptop between lectures, the library and home gets old fast.

What’s available

To give you a sense of what’s on offer, here are some of the laptops currently available through Currys’ Back to College range:

  • HP OmniBook X Flip 14″ 2-in-1 Laptop — €789

  • HP 15.6″ Laptop AMD Ryzen 5, 512 GB SSD — €799

  • Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 14″ Laptop Intel Core 5, 512 GB SSD — €819

  • HP Pavilion SE 14″ Laptop Intel Core i5, 256 GB SSD — €599

A Currys spokesperson said: “A laptop is one of the biggest purchases students and parents will make ahead of college, so it’s important to find one that suits both the course and the student’s budget. From lightweight laptops for taking notes and working on assignments on the go to higher-performance devices for more demanding courses, there are options to suit different needs.”

A few things to know before you buy

Student verification for applicable discounts is handled through Currys’ verification partner GoCertify — so students will need to verify their status to access those savings. Full terms, eligibility requirements and exclusions are available at Currys.ie.

The student savings offer runs until 1st November 2026 on Windows laptops and desktops, and until 27th October 2026 on Chromebooks — which gives a reasonable window if you’re not quite ready to commit yet. Worth noting that the free delivery offer doesn’t cover tablets, Chromebooks, gaming laptops, accessories, software, monitors or peripherals, so check before you checkout.

Currys’ Back to College hub also has buying advice for students unsure of where to start. You can browse the full range at currys.ie or in your nearest Currys store.
