Couple share the harsh reality of adoption and we're bawling

Elsie Larson and her husband Jeremy, are in the midst of adopting their beautiful daughter from China.

Documenting their adoption journey through their blog, The Larson House, the couple have shared several tidbits about their exciting trip to complete their family.

The Tennessee couple have been going through the process for over 18 months, feeling privileged to know their little girl will be joining them very soon.

But Elsie has shared something that often gets overlooked through the elation of adoption; the time lost by their daughter, Nova.

"Nova lost so much in her first two years; her birth parents, her birth name and her birthday (she didn't have a note left with her… sadly, a lot of Chinese orphans have estimated birthdays)."

"Soon she'll be losing the place she knows, familiar faces and the country she was born in."

On the day that these thoughts struck the soon-to-be mum, Elsie also realised that it is quite possible the couple will only ever have one photograph of their little girl under the age of two.

"There are so many heartbreaking realities in adoption. Preparing to give Nova a magical childhood consumes so much of my mind."

"I feel lucky that she's young enough to potentially have her first memories with us."

Elsie and Jeremy are full of joy that they can give Nova the life she truly deserves and most importantly, the family love she deserves.

Posting a photo of her daughter's bedroom, Elsie vows: "We have a lot to try to make up for."

Today I realized for the first time that most likely we'll only ever have one photo of her below the age of two- ONE photo in two years. Some of it we can't give back to her, but we will still try.  #thelarsonsadopt
