Can you help? 170K needed to fit-out 20 homes for the homeless

8,587 men, women and children in Ireland are living in emergency accommodation, according to the Peter McVerry Trust – 45 percent of these are aged 24 years or younger (3,897).

To help tackle this ever-growing issue, Harvey Norman are teaming up with the Irish charity to raise awareness of the homeless crisis.

The home and interiors specialists are fundraising to fit-out 20 homes across Ireland, making a home a reality for those currently supported by Peter McVerry Trust.

Harvey Norman have a fundraising goal of €170,000 and they will be matching all €1 donations at point of purchase in-store or online.

They have also worked with Dublin based artist collective, Subset, to highlight the homeless crisis in Ireland with the design of an inspirational mural on Fleet Street.

Staff will be present at the mural from 8th – 20th February, taking cash donations as well as discussing in-store events and fundraising initiatives.

Members of the public can also help raise funds by buying products from the Making Homes Collection, a range which includes the fundamental things we take for granted that make a house a home: a dining table to host friends around, a fridge to showcase their kid’s drawings and bedding to create a safe and warm sleep haven.

For every item bought from this collection a minimum of €5 will be donated to Peter McVerry Trust.

“This support from Harvey Norman’s staff and customers is vital to help Peter McVerry Trust providing homes for the most vulnerable,” CEO of Peter McVerry Trust Pat Doyle said. 

The public will be able to donate by:

• Buying a Badge on street at Dublin’s Fleet Street Mural from 8th – 20nd February.
• Buying a product from our Making Homes Collection with €5 donated to the Peter McVerry Trust. There are over 800 products in the Making Homes Collection in store across, furniture, bedding, homewares, appliances and technology.
• Donating Online  at www.harveynorman.ie/makinghomes  
• Donating online and in-store at the checkout, where all €1 donations will be matched by Harvey Norman
• Donating to fundraising activities organised by the Harvey Norman teams in-store for the whole month of February.
