Boots announces participation in new free HRT scheme for women

Boots has revealed that they will be participating in the upcoming rollout of the free HRT scheme.

In October of last year, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly announced that legislation had been passed by the Dáil to allow for the free provision of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to women.

Now, just days away from the scheme’s launch, Boots has confirmed that they will be participating in the free HRT scheme, aimed at improving access to essential healthcare for women experiencing menopause.

Detailing that they are “committed to supporting women's health and well-being”, Boots will be providing eligible individuals with access to free HRT prescriptions at its pharmacies across the country.

Speaking on Boots’ decision to join the scheme, Caoimhe McAuley, a Superintendent pharmacist at Boots, commented: "Boots is proud to be part of this important initiative, which will make HRT more accessible to women across the country.”

She added: “We are dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare services and supporting women through all stages of their lives."

Boots’ update comes ahead of the Government officially launching the scheme next month. The free HRT rollout was expected to begin in January, but it was eventually pushed back due to multiple delays.

According to the HSE, women must be prescribed HRT by their healthcare provider and be either registered for the Drugs Payment Scheme or have a medical card, in order to access free HRT prescriptions.

For further details on how you can access free HRT prescriptions through Boots, you can visit the Boots website here and Boots pharmacies nationwide, when the scheme launches on June 1 of this year.
