Blanchardstown Centre Turns 30 with a Free Family Day and Gavin James

If you’ve been looking for a genuinely free, genuinely fun family day out that doesn’t involve a two-hour drive or anyone crying in a car park, Blanchardstown Centre has you covered. The centre is marking its 30th anniversary on Saturday, 24 October 2026 with a full day of live entertainment, family activities and some rather exciting special surprises — and the whole thing is free.

Thirty years. That’s a long time. If you’re a Dublin northsider, or anywhere near Finglas, Castleknock, Mulhuddart or beyond, there’s a very good chance Blanchardstown Centre has featured in your life story more than once. First jobs. Christmas panic-shopping. Dragging teenagers around Penneys. Meeting a friend for coffee when the walls were closing in. The centre opened in October 1996 and it’s been quietly at the centre of community life ever since — which is exactly why this anniversary feels worth celebrating.

Gavin James is headlining — yes, really

The special guest for the day is none other than Gavin James, the Dublin singer-songwriter who has spent the last decade breaking hearts across Europe and beyond with that voice. Gavin will perform a selection of his biggest hits and will then present a donation to the centre’s charity partner, St. Francis Hospice, at 1.30pm — recognising the vital work the hospice does for patients and families in the local area.

Gavin himself grew up around Blanchardstown, so this one is personal. “Blanchardstown Centre was a big part of my youth and has been part of my journey,” he said, “so it means a lot to be involved and to have the opportunity to give back to the community. St. Francis Hospice provides an incredibly caring and meaningful service, and I’m proud to support its work. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone there and celebrating together.”

Iain Finlayson, Centre Director, added: “Reaching this milestone is a fantastic achievement, and we wanted to mark it by bringing our customers and the wider community together for a really memorable celebration. Gavin’s generous support for St. Francis Hospice is a wonderful gesture towards a service that makes a real difference to local families.”

A festival feel, right on your doorstep

The day is being pitched as festival-style, with live performances, family entertainment and activities running throughout. There will be something for all ages, which in mum terms means you won’t spend the afternoon bribing a five-year-old while silently willing the whole thing to wrap up.

The celebrations will also include a nod to the people, businesses and organisations that have shaped the centre’s story over three decades — a lovely touch that goes beyond the usual anniversary fanfare.

Blanchardstown Centre is Ireland’s largest retail and leisure destination, with more than 180 shops across over 1.1 million sq. ft. of space. Anchored by Dunnes Stores, Marks & Spencer and Aldi, with brands like Penneys, H&M, Zara and Mango, it’s a destination most of us could probably navigate blindfolded at this stage.

Mark it in the diary now

The 24th of October falls on a Saturday, the mid-term stretch is looming and a free family day out with live music and community celebration is genuinely not to be sniffed at. No booking required — just show up.
