Bioderma shares top tips to treat your skin & prevent eczema

Did you know that it’s estimated that one in five children and one in ten adults suffer from eczema in Ireland. Some of the common symptoms they experience include dry skin, redness, and itching. For those dealing with this condition, it can be challenging to find relief. If you suffer with eczema, discover how to manage it effectively with Bioderma’s Atoderm range.

The Atoderm range is specially formulated for dry, very dry, or atopic skin, and offers a complete collection of cleansing and skincare products for both the face and body, designed to be used alongside treatments for eczema. After using the products, you can expect to see everyday eczema symptoms calmed while your skin feels hydrated and comfortable.

Since September was Eczema Awareness Month, Gemma Jones, Bioderma’s medical representative, compiled five top tips to help you build an ideal eczema skincare routine.

Say no to soaps

When it comes to cleansing eczema-prone skin, being gentle is super important. Avoid soaps or heavily fragranced products because these can irritate the skin. Instead, opt for gentle, soap-free cleansers like Atoderm Shower Gel (200ml) €11, which is specially formulated for sensitive skin and suitable for body, face and hands. For enhanced hydration, look to Atoderm Shower Oil (200ml) €13, designed to soothe irritation and leave skin feeling satin-soft and comfortable.

Lock in that moisture

If you are prone to dry or atopic skin, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated. One easy way to lock in moisture and prevent dryness is to apply moisturiser straight after a lukewarm shower or bath. Atoderm Cream Ultra (200ml) €13 is the perfect post-shower treat, offering immediate and long-lasting hydration. Remember: avoid hot showers as these can worsen symptoms of eczema.

Resist the urge to scratch

Even though it may be tempting, it's important to not scratch irritated skin when you’re experiencing an eczema flare-up. Doing so can worsen symptoms and increase risk of infection. Instead, apply a cold water compress to the affected area in order to get an immediate cooling effect. If you need extra relief, treat itchy skin with Atoderm SOS Spray €12. This simple spray soothes the itching sensation for up to six hours.

Don’t forget your eyelids

The skin around your eyelids is extremely delicate. For those with dry, eczema-prone skin, it can be extra vulnerable to irritation. For that reason, it’s important to not neglect the skin around your eyelids and use products specifically tailored to this part of the body. Protect your eyelids with Atoderm Intensive Eye €12, a multifunctional product that can be used as either a daily treatment or make-up remover. It reduces dryness and redness around the eyelids while offering intense nourishment and moisturisation.

Prevention is the best treatment

Want to prevent eczema flare-ups? One of the best ways to avoid flare-ups is by giving skin a little extra TLC and applying moisturiser each day. Pick up Atoderm Intensive Balm (200ml) €16, an ultra-soothing balm dedicated to irritated, eczema-prone skin. Not only does it help soothe the skin and minimise the urge to scratch, it works to strengthen the skin barrier and reduce the frequency of flare-ups.

Bioderma’s Atoderm range is available now from pharmacies and e-retailers nationwide.
