Anna McPartlin's Somewhere Inside of Happy will make you laugh and cry

Few books are hilarious and heartbreaking, but Anna McPartlin's latest novel is.

The best-selling author of The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes shows us once shows us that she can convey human emotion like no other.

Somewhere Inside of Happy follows Maisie Bean – a fighter; survivor.

Almost two decades ago, Dubliner Maisie went on a first date from hell.

The marriage that followed was far from domestic bliss, but it wasn't a total waste of time. She got two fabulous kids out of it: funny, caring Jeremy and bullish but brilliant Valerie.

Just as it seems everything is finally going alright, 16-year-old Jeremy goes missing.

The police are called and a media storm ensues, over five days of searching that hurtle towards an      inevitable and terribly conclusion.

Once again, Maisie has to fight, and this time it's the fight of her life.

But she's as determined as ever, and she'll never give in.

The book is told from the perspectives of different characters, including Maisie to her mum Bridie, her  daughter Valerie, her friend Fred who's a Garda, her best friend Lynn, and her son before his death.

This approach really works, particularly as the characters are so authentically portrayed that you feel as if  you  know them.

If you want a funny read that's also emotionally engaging, don't miss this little gem.
