Ahh! So THIS is what the baby from The Snapper looks like now
The Snapper is an absolute Irish classic film (and book!) and time and time again it never fails to crack us up. Colm Meaney as Des Curley, Larry Gogan the dog, pretending to give one of the kids only the wheel of a bike as a birthday present – everything about it encapsulates what makes the Irish sense of humour so special.
So when we heard that Georgina – Sharon Curley and Georgie Burgess’ baby – or rather the actress that played her – not only turned 23 recently, but also rows for Ireland, we just had to share it with you.
Aisling Conlon, who was born in Holles Street in Dublin, actually lived in Dubai ‘til she was nine, so it was only when she moved home she learned both the significance of the movie for Irish people AND that she was in it!
“When I came home people were talking about this movie and my dad said, “Oh, you were the baby” but it didn't really register how significant of a cult Irish film it was until I was in my teenage years,” Aisling told The Ryan Tubridy Show RTÉ Radio 1.
And it was her cute dimples that got her the gig, she says.
“He [the casting director] was speaking to a few of the nurses in the ward [in Holles Street] and asked them if they had any good looking babies, which sounds like a terrible thing to ask them, but they recommended me because of my large dimples.”
And Aisling still has those dimples. The 23 year old who is studying a Masters in clinical and translational research at UCD also represents Ireland on the Irish canoe slalom team and will hopefully compete in at the Rio Olympics this year.
Georgina Curley grew up good.
