Your pregnancy - week 10

Baby_View_09Congrats! You are now a quarter of the way through your pregnancy. In the 10th week you will notice some new symptoms and continue to deal with some of the familiar ones. This week is particularly special because the sex of your baby will finally be determined.

Your baby this week

Once again, your baby has doubled in size and is now the shape of a prune. The tissue that develops into your baby’s reproductive organs becomes recognisable at this stage. In females, the clitoris will be visible and the ovaries will descend, while in a male foetus, the testes appear and will begin to produce testosterone.

Your baby’s fingers have also separated, and tiny fingernails will become visible. The eyes have now moved to the front of the face, and your baby’s taste buds are starting to form on the tongue. Since your baby’s neck muscles have developed, he or she will now be able to move their head back and fourth.

Your body this week

In the 10th week of your pregnancy, the amount of blood in your body will begin to increase hugely. This will make your blood vessels more visible, particularly in your breasts, stomach, legs and skin. You will still feel nauseous and tired in your 10th week, but you may also notice that your skin is blotchy. As odd as it sounds, you may also suffer from weaker gums.
