6 kitchen cleaning tips for those days when time is against you

A mum's life is hectic; between work, kids and cleaning the house, there are always 100 things to do and never enough time in the day to do them.

We often find that the kitchen is the hardest room of the house to keep clean – just when it is done, the kids bulldoze through and it is back to square one.

So, we have found some quick and easy kitchen cleaning tips for those days when the to-do list seems never-ending and we just couldn't keep them to ourselves!

1. Get streak-free windows with vinegar

Use vinegar mixed with water and paper towels to easily clean your windows. There will be no streaks and it is so much cheaper than shop bought window cleaners.

2. Eliminate fridge odours with baking soda

Put a small shallow dish filled with baking soda in the back of your fridge. It will soak up any nasty smells and will make those dreaded fridge clean out days a lot less needed.

3. Clean the blender by turning it on

Whether you are making healthy smoothies or soups or batch-cooking baby food, the blender is such a handy kitchen tool for mums. But it is such a pain to clean. Simply squirt some washing up liquid in, half fill it with hot water and turn it in for a minute, then rinse it under the tap and it will be as good as new.

4. Clean the dishwasher with vinegar and a mug

Dishwashers are so handy for a busy mum, but can get very unhygienic, and dishwasher treatments can be super expensive. A more affordable alternative is to put vinegar into two mugs, place one on the top shelf and and one on the bottom shelf and run as normal. This can be done anywhere from once a month to every few months depending on how often you use your dishwasher.

5. Unclog the cheese grater with a potato

Scrubbing the cheese grater can be such a tedious job, especially if it has hardened. A quick and handy way to unclog it is to grate a potato, it pushes the cheese out and makes it easy to wipe clean.

6. Fight oil with oil

Oil attracts oil, so it makes sense that to clean nasty oil spills on the cooker or counters you should put a few drops of oil onto some kitchen paper and use that to clean it up. It works to much faster than using water as water repels oil.

7. Use lemon juice and vinegar to clean taps

Taps can be a nuisance to clean and are often forgotten about in lieu of more urgent jobs. So for the days when you finally get around to it, use vinegar, water and lemon juice to cut through the grime quickly and easily.
