3 things to expect from him while you’re pregnant

sad manThe majority of women have an idea of what to expect when they find out they’re pregnant. These body changes and pregnancy symptoms draw a lot of attention to the mum-to-be, leaving the expectant dad lost in his own thoughts.

Too often, we get caught up in our own emotions and forget about what our partner is going through. He might not have to deal with swollen feet or back pains, but he is also trying to adjust to these new changes in both of your lives.

Here are some of the things that shouldn’t surprise you about your partner when you’re expecting:

Sharing the ‘joys’ of pregnancy

Believe it or not, some men actually do get what you’re going through (or at least they have an idea of it). There are many who gain sympathy weight while their wives are expecting and in some cases, men can even experience nausea and vomiting too. This is called couvade syndrome which comes from the word ‘to hatch’. So if your symptoms start to rub off on him then be sure to share the crackers.

Hormonal changes

It’s true, he’s on an emotional roller-coaster too. As your estrogen and progesterone increase during pregnancy, your partner’s testosterone decreases. His ‘Mr. Mom’ hormone also increases and he starts to develop an emotional daddy brain. So don’t be surprised if your partner suddenly grows a softer heart, those hormones are affecting him too!

Let the handy work begin

If you thought he was Bob the Builder before, expect a bit of more from him now. While you prepare the cute baby clothes, your partner will more than likely prepare the equipment for your little bundle of you. Men go into their own nesting mode while you’re expecting and they will remind you why you fell in love with them in the first place.
