14 things mums say and what they really mean

what parents sayWhen you were younger, you probably weren’t too happy with your mum using phrases like ‘we’ll see’ or ‘ask your father’. But now, these are the exact words you use with your little ones.

Here are some of the common phrases mums use and what they really mean:

“We’ll see”

It’s never gonna happen.

“Money doesn’t grow on trees”

Stop wasting my funds on things with no value.

“Because I said so”

I’m really not in the mood to fight right now, just do as I say.

“Finish your dinner, there are children in Africa who would love to eat that”

I didn’t just spend all that time making dinner for you to take two bites out of it, eat up!

“One day you’ll thank me for this”

I’m really just looking out for you, please don’t hold this against me.

“I never said it was going to be easy”

You’re not a child anyone, I’m pretty sure you can manage.

“Yeah well, life isn’t fair my dear”

You have a lot to learn my dear child – it doesn’t get any easier.

“Maybe”

Don’t hold your breath.

“Go ask your father”

I’m not in the mood to be the ‘bad’ one tonight, go ask daddy.

“We can talk about this in the morning”

I’m not really in the humor for this.

“I don’t care who started it”

Just kiss and make up already, you’re both going to forget this tomorrow any ways.

“Uh-huh…uh-huh..I know..”

I stopped listening a very long time ago.

“Whose are these?”

I know whose they are, I just don’t understand why they’re in my way.

“As long as you’re living under my roof…”

Until you’re living alone, you live by my rules.
