Plans for the bank hol? Well this year's Bloom festival is set to be the BEST yet
Still deciding what to get up to over the long weekend? Well we might have just the thing for the whole family to enjoy.
Bord Bia’s annual Bloom festival opens in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, tomorrow morning, marking its 10th year celebrating food, horticulture and gardening.
The festival – set to be a total feast for the senses, with fabulous things to taste, touch, smell and see – will feature amazing show gardens, more than 100 Irish food and drink producers, 200 retailers and 50 of Ireland’s top nurseries, all providing gardening tips, artisan food, craft beer and more to the 100,000 visitors expected to attend over the five days of the festival.
The centrepiece of the festival will be the show garden area, where themes this year range from the 1916 Rising and the war in Syria, to social farming and the evolution of plants. Apart from a record eight large gardens on display this year, this year’s competition will also showcase gardens from Chile, China and Chicago.
And there really is something for everyone, with cookery demos from some of Ireland’s top chefs, fashion shows, public debate, music, an open farm, and a kids’ play area.
Oh, and did we mention kids under 16 go free?
Bloom opens its doors from 9am on Thursday morning and will run to 6pm each day, finishing up on bank holiday Monday (inclusive).
