3 gorgeous Christmas mocktails for mums-to-be

We’ve all heard of the placebo effect right? We’re given a fake version of something and the fact we believe in it makes it work?

So why should mocktails (‘mock’ cocktails) be any different?

What we LOVE about cocktails are the beautiful glasses, the flamboyant presentation, the fact they make us feel like proper laydeez. The actual alcohol only comes in like fourth place anyway.

So there’s no reason mums-to-be shouldn’t ‘quaff’ in style this Christmas. Here are our fave festive mocktail recipes for inspiration:

Super simple

Virgin mimosas

Sometimes called Bucks Fizz, mimosas made with champagne or Prosecco and orange juice are a lovely Christmas morning tradition.

For our version just fill a flute with half OJ half Sprite of 7UP. Cheaper too!

A little more effort

 Mulled apple juice

The ultimate in Christmassy goodness, mulled apple juice is a delicious swap for mulled wine – and it’s healthy.

Simply simmer 1 litre of apple juice with orange peel and a cinnamon stick for 5-10mins and add some honey or sugar to taste. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and some orange.

Even MORE effort but oh-so-worth-it

Chocolate Martini Mocktail

This one is pure decadence! This recipe makes loads so you’ll be well stocked up.

Ingredients:

100g sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
240ml cup water
480 ml cups almond milk
50g dark chocolate

Method

Combine the sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon and water in a small saucepan and simmer over medium-high heat and cook, whisking occasionally, until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.

When cooled pop into a blender with some ice and the almond milk and serve in a swanky martini glass with some grated dark chocolate to garnish. Oh la la!
