For parents, the teen years mean a lot of door slamming, eye rolling and constant grunting. But, there’s usually a reason behind your teens behavior and a lot of the time, it has nothing to do with you.

Here are 11 things your teen won’t tell you:

1. I’m terribly insecure
Teenagers are constantly worrying about what they look like, whether they are good enough and how much they don’t want to disappoint you.

2. I’m scared of the big bad world
Your teen is still enjoying the fact that he or she doesn’t have a lot of responsibilities. As they start to get older, things will become clearer and the reality of it all will just seems so scary.

3. I wish you would listen to me more
Sometimes all a teen wants is for you to hear them out. They don’t want a lecture or a speech, they just want you to listen.

4. The stress of exams is getting to me
Your teen might not look like they care, but deep down they really do.

5. I take your money for granted
Sorry, but this is true. Sometimes when you give a teen an inch, they’ll take a mile.

6. I wish you had some faith in me
You wouldn’t be the first parent to suspect your child is taking drugs or drink driving. Unless there are obvious signs, trust that your teen is staying on the safe side of things.

7. I need help
Some teens are afraid to ask for help in case people think they’re incapable.

8. I want to make you proud
All any child wants to do is to make their parents proud. Your teen is scared of disappointing you, so try not to put too much pressure on them.

9. I hate when you compare me to others
No two kids are the same, avoid comparing your teen to other siblings.

10. I love you, but I love my friends too
Just because your teen doesn’t tell you things, it doesn’t mean they don’t love you. Trust that they chose the right friends to give them good advice and positive influence.

11. I need you more than you think
Deep down, your teen is still a kid and they depend on you a lot more than they would like to admit.
