My insurance is due for renewal. We had a flood claim after flooding in 2011 but have thankfully been dry since.

I have a renewal from my current insurer but having no luck - the problem is either that it was a flood claim or the cost of the claim.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to try?

FBD, my mother has had numerous floods in a holiday home and they insure her.

AA is tied to RSA for house insurance and they will not take on any new business with a previous flood claim - doubt they're the only one!

FBD tried but couldn't quote. Guess I should be glad my renewal quote has gone down a bit but looks like I'm stuck with my current company forever!

I had flood damage in Jan 2012 (a burst pipe) but most companies wouldn't give me a quote last year and won't until I am 3 or 5 years claim free, depending on the company. My existing comany (Aviva) would, but it was so expensive hence the shopping around.
FBD did give me a quote and I went with them.

Sorry crossed posts, must be the flooding issue which is a pity. My "flood" was obviously different.

My flooding was rain - I think the value of the claim is also a factor.

Ah well, at least I've tried!

If your claim was substantial it is our experience that any new insurance companies won't even quote you until 3 years after your claim was settled. However, ours was a fire claim not flood so the goal posts might move a bit as it was flooding. You never know with insurance! Sometimes depends on the amount of claim so do keep trying for an alternative quote. Did you ring 123.ie? We found these good for quoting too: http://www.kbc.ie/insurance/homeinsurance

Thanks for the further leads - I'm over the three years since I've claimed but then the problem seems to be the value of the claim. KBC were lovely about it but they'd only quote me without flood cover. 123 can't quote at all.

Ah, well, at least I've got a renewal!

Thanks to everyone for their help.

There's a new insurance brokers near the town I live in. I hear they are eager for business and competitive. They also won some award recently. Haven't dealt with them myself yet.

Very nice on the phone - only business insurance though!

Thanks for all the tips - I'll just renew with my current insurer and be glad I had insurance before the flooding as I'd certainly be hard pushed to get it now!!
