Dd has a Samsung galaxy tablet 7'' and it's a great tablet. I am thinking if getting one for myself.
It was €169 in PC World.

It's 8", I think 8 is plenty, I have 16 on my iPhone and have loads of photos and music on it.

We have the ipad mini. It's the business. I would rather pay extra and get the ipad than an android.

Have had not so good experience with android. Had to bring the nexus back 5 times in 18 months. Each time they were lovely and gave a replacement immediately but I was waiting for it to conk again.

Ok fair enough, I can see why you'd want to avoid them!

I would go for a high end android 7" screen, especially as you have an android already, you can share apps.
Don't go for a cheap chinese android without a good recommendation.

I got an ipad mini last year as a gift and I much prefer the android, I find it a pain to use in comparison to android, I dislike the store and also the way to put on any movies and that it all has to be done through itunes.
It is also the only screen on a tablet / phone that has split on me and that happened after only a few months.

One other thing that annoyed me about the ipad was the security settings, you could either have them on or off, so for example when I had that I need to use the security code to purchase apps or whatever, I also had to enter the password even when I wanted a free app, I think the most the password would last was 15 mins. Drove me nuts.
With android you can just restrict paid apps and in app purchase so they can still download the free ones. Also the new Android operating systems are more versatile again and plenty of settings you can tweak for young kids.

My DS has the Galaxy tab and likes it (but he does prefer the iPad) you can definitely play minecraft on it.
