Teen Years

Is your teen creative? Check out this writing workshop aimed at teens!

It’s the Easter holidays and those teens who don’t have exams to be studying for are at a bit of a loose end this year.

It’s understandable. Most of them are barely back into school and already they’ve another two weeks off. Everything is feeling a little disjointed and this Easter break yawns before them with no promise of restrictions lifting any time soon. Right now, they can’t even really see friends, there’s no cinema open to go to and we’ve all walked everywhere there is to walk at this stage.

But have they tried flexing their imaginative muscles yet?

If your teen loves to read or write, then Fighting Words and Dun Laoghaire Library’s online teen writing workshop could be the exact thing they need to try something new this Easter.

Aimed at 14-16 year olds, this event happening from 14.00-16.00 April 1st (this Thursday) is all about unleashing the power of imagination!

They will be working together as a group before breaking up into smaller groups to work with the Fighting Words volunteers. Create new characters, build new words, and kick-start your writing journey!

As part of the workshop, the participants will be assigned into breakout rooms with volunteers from Fighting Words. The link to the Zoom workshop will be sent through EventBrite two days before and then again two hours before the beginning of the event.

(Please note that all names on booking sheet have to match Zoom display names for security reasons. They won't be able to let people into the workshop if the names are different.)

Fighting Words’ aim is to help children and young people, and adults who did not have this opportunity as children, to discover and harness the power of their own imaginations and creative writing skills. At its core, Fighting Words is also about something much broader and more inclusive. It is about using the creative practice of writing and storytelling to strengthen children and teenagers – from a wide range of backgrounds – to be resilient, creative and successful shapers of their own lives.
